Our 4 Days Mgoun Trekking Plan
Day 1:
Arrival crossing to the High Atlas Depending on your arrival time, the driver will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the High Atlas. Here you will also be accommodated in a pleasant guesthouse in Aremd, a picturesque mountain village, awkwardly built on a steep slope and surrounded by walnut and apple orchards. Dinner in the pension.
Day 2:
Hiking in the High Atlas Walking trip around the village of Aremd, along a comfortable path with beautiful views. Lunch prepared in the form of a picnic near the saddle Tizi n ́Tamatert. After lunch, return to the village through the Berber villages of the Imlil Valley. Visit a local family and learn all about the Moroccan tea ceremony.
Day 3:
Marrakech – Ouzoud waterfalls – Ait Bouguemez/ Happy Valley In the morning, departure to the largest Moroccan waterfalls Ouzoud, which at this time have enough water. Arrival around noon, walk to the waterfalls, lunch. In the afternoon, a trip to the picturesque valley of Ait Bougnearemez, also called the “Valley of the Happy People”. Overnight and dinner in a nice accommodation where you will spend 2 nights below the top of Jebel Azourki Travel time: 6 h
Day 4:
Day trek in Ait Bougemez Trek around Jebel Azourki. In the morning you will go on a trek to the lake Lac d ́Izourar, which together with the surrounding peaks creates beautiful views. Along the way you will pass through several traditional villages. The area is popular with nomads who come here to graze their herds of goats or camels. Lunch in the form of a picnic. Walking time: 4 – 6 h (according to preference)
Day 5:
Ait Bouguemez – Valley of the Roses You will cross the Central Atlas on a partly off-road road completed only a few months ago. Many places and villages through which foreigners will pass have not yet visited. You will have plenty of time to stop and walk around the picturesque surroundings. You will reach the village of BouTharar on the MGoun River, where you will stay in a pleasant guesthouse. In the afternoon you will go on a hike around the MGoun River. Travel time: 3-4 h Walking time: 2 – 3 h
Day 6:
Valley of the Roses – Sahara After breakfast, you will take the off-road road between the mountains to the Dades Valley. If possible, you will visit one of the nomadic families who often stay in the area Then you continue into the Todgha Valley to the highest Moroccan gorge. Here you will take a short walk and have lunch at the friendly hosts in a small village nearby. After lunch, transfer to the village of Hassilabied on the edge of sand dunes and further to a luxurious Bedouin camp. In the evening, camel riding in the sand dunes (approx. 1h). Dinner at the camp, after dinner campfire (if there is no wind), Berber dancing and music. Travel time: 6 h Walking time: 2 h
Day 7:
Sahara Early risers will be rewarded today with the view of the sunrise over the sand dunes. Breakfast in the camp and then go for a walk with a guide into the heart of the sand dunes. A walk in the fine sand is very pleasant, those interested can also climb one of the higher dunes, from where a view of the entire Erg Chebbi area opens. Lunch will be prepared today in the form of a picnic right in the desert. Berber pizza, called medfunu, will be baked by the guide directly in the sand. After lunch and a short rest continue on foot ca. 1-2 hours to the meeting point with our drivers. Subsequently, ca. four-hour crossing near the town of Nkob, where you will spend the night Walking time: 3h Travel time: 3 h
Day 8:
Nkob – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech After breakfast, drive through the oasis of Draa, the second largest date oasesin Morocco, and then through the Saghro Mountains to the UNESCO village of Ait Ben Haddou. Here you will have lunch and see the kasbah. Then continue through the Ounila valley to the saddle of Tichka and then to Marrakech. Travel time: 6 h Walking time: 1 – 2 h
